Default adjusting solid lifters

Hey how often do you guys have to adjust your solid lifters?
i really wanna run them and i know you get a performance gain from them but i dont wannt be adjusting them every week

and also, how much do you drive the car per adjustment?

Thanks,
Danny

Why do you want to go solid? There are options in hydraulic that you wont go beyond the need for.

You realize you have to have a solid lifter CAM to go with it.

With the modern day roller hydraulic lifters there is simply no need to run solid lifters.

Danny, where did you hear about this performance gain and what exactly do you expect it to be?

I was at a SCCA race recently and surprised to see most of the guys in SPO running solid lifters. But they do spin the motors to 7K-8K for an extended time. Maybe a durability issue more than a power issue for those guys.

I belive solid lifter were more about float at high rpm's-many time hydraulic lifters can't keep up at high rpms.

the all out race engines are solid lifter
and i know it has to be a cam made for it, the engine isnt built yet so thats not an issue

but the solid lifters dont compress any at high rpms like the hydrolic can. also, i was talking to a guy from edelbrock and he said they can better hold high rpms too and if your willing to adjust them then you could benefit a bit from them

Unless your going to build the engine for HIGH sustained rpm's don't mess with it.

How many rpms do you intend to run? Morel offers hydrualic lifters you can run to 8000 rpms if you want but the engine had better be built to handle that kind of abuse. Limited travel so they dont pump up or down.

You have to understand those are purpose built race motors from the bottom up.Unless you are going to spend a ton of money, hydraulics will do anything you could want and be far easier to live with.

There you go! How about telling us more of what the big picture plan is with your car. Street, track, strip or just a mixture of all? You may want to fill in your sig with all the info about your car, like year, model, and mods.

Default solid lifters

For sure stick with hydraulic. I had solids on my Big Block LS6 in a boat (1980s) and it was still a hassle every 10 hours of running time to adjust the lifters. Major pain.

I ran a solid lifter cam in my Pontiac back in the early 70's... Thinking back on that a Pontiac with a solid lifter cam was like having a clock that went to 13...LOL.. But anyway here is how we used to set them...
When the intake valve starts to close set the exhaust..
When the exhaust valve starts to open set the intake...
Would set them cold and then again hot..

That's all true but if you're planning to spin an LSX engine to 9 - 10K, lifters are the least of your problems.
