So, I bought my dream C5 Vert last week from a dealer in Dallas, but seems that the transmission is shot. It went out after around 50 miles or so, so this is my question: If you had to put in a streetable (daily driver) transmission in an A & A supercharged Vert, what would you suggest?

Purchased "as is"? No warranty for a 50 mile trans failure?? As stated above...RPM transmissions. You might want to get a good look at that clutch too.
Bought "as is" after a test drive, it was delivered a week later... and it's now parked. It's an automatic trans, so I'll change the torque converter at the same time. I want the car to accelerate briskly on the highway, but I wont be taking it to the track. Would a level IV work for that application?
Check your local laws.If you bought it from a dealer, even an "as is" vehicle has some warranty.A major problem, such as the trans would be covered. The laws were designed for just this type of situation and to keep dishonest dealers in check.
I know many guys who have great things to say about Performabulit trasmissions---they are good to work with and have an excellent warranty--They have warranties for all 3 levels of their level 1 is good for 600 Hp level 2 --700 and level 3-- 800

Your best bet is to call RPM, and discuss your setup with them. Then they can explain all the options, and what will work best for you.
Thanks for the advice! I am looking at RPM, and Art Carrs. Art Carrs is 5 minutes up the road, and they come with a lifetime warranty ($3600 including parts/labor/install minus 10% military discount!). RPM seems to have a very good rep, around $3000 (not including install) and a limited warranty.
On a side note, I am waiting for the dealership owner to get back in contact with me. I've heard everything from "we might pay half of parts and labor" ( the salesman) to "we might be willing to give you a couple hundred bucks to offset the cost, we cant be liable for these performance type cars so..." (owners word's quoted by the salesman).
I am trying to remain patient, but it is a little frustrating when you feel as though you've been burned. I've got my fingers crossed!

Performabuilt builds great trannys they just don't have alot of
experience with C-5,s . They were my first choice but I had to send my old tranny to them to build; no cores. FLT and RPM have built
C-5 trannys in stock or the cores to build like you want it. I
talked to Dave at Yank and he was high on FLT and there are alot
of LS-1 Tech guys that like them and my shop like them so.......
Finish Line Transmission was my choice. Good luck.

Art Carr built a 200-4R trans for me many years ago when I had my Turbo T/A...but that was back when he was in So Cal. I didn't know he's in TX now...I remeber he left CA to move to Las Vegas.
That trans was bullit proof coupled with a vigilante lock up torque converter...trans was rated up 900 hp. You may want to look at those converters too...Vigilante makes very torque converters. I just don't know how much C5 stuff Art Carr does, but I was very happy with his work on my previous car.
I have never been impressed with the stock 4L60E. That thing breaks in everything gm makes, so I'm not surprised it didn't last in a supercharged corvette. Maybe you can at least negotiate the labor putting it in. I have a six speed and it took about 10 hours to pull the trans/torque tube out the first time. It was also another 8-10 hours to put it all back together again.
it really is worth your while to call the dealer also that you bought the car from and see if they'll help you out.
if it really was 50 miles..legally they don't have to if it was sold as-is but if you go in calmly and ask to speak to the general sales manager or the GM..you'll probably get it paid or half paid for.
point being if it went out in 50 miles and you bought it @ dealer...they knew there was an issue
I finally struck a deal with the dealership. I pay $2K and they cover the rest for the rebuild (parts/labor/transportation) The new trans will come with a year warranty, and it will give me a little time to know the car. In a year I may want to make some changes, but right now I just want to enjoy the car!
