I have a friend in Sacramento with an 01 Z. The engine light comes on and after checking codes it comes up with PO410 which shows "air system"? What does that actually mean? Can he fix it himself? Any help would be appreciated. He has been taking it to a stealership and has $1000.00 into it already.

It means that both banks are not responding....possible causes:
1) 2 bad check valves (possible but unlikely)
2) AIR pump not running (bad pump, wiring, fuse, etc)
3) AIR pump valve not working( bad valve, vacuum leak, solenoid)
If he has $1000 into this problem, he should not have to pay another dime, and should have money coming back to him. A wrong diagnosis on the dealers part, is not the responsibility of the owner.
What the hell did they replace that cost $1000.????? Did you keep all the old parts???
The STEALERSHIP that read that DTC and charged the owner $1000. and the problem isn’t fixed yet , should be investigated by your state Attorney General, have that tech's GM ASE Cert pulled and then be fired. The service manager should be ashamed!
Hell,,,they have a TECH 2 and all the tools to command the AIR Pump on and can check flow etc.
If they can’t figure out the check valves are bad with in 30 min of troubleshooting, GOD HELP THEM. There either STUPID or CROOKS!
I’ve seen better troubleshooting service at WALMART service centers than he received at that dealership!!
Find a better and more capable service center cause those guys are BOZOs!
