Default AC Manifold gauges help?

I went out and purchased an AC maniflod gauge from HF. Thought I would check my AC since it stopped working, went to put it on but the connections are the wrong size? Do I need an adaptor, or different hoses, or what?
Thanks

You'll need a gauge set for R134 systems. R12 will not work. Take them back.

There are two different sizes to the connectors, are you sure you are putting them on the proper ports?

If its from harbor freight, you never know what you may get. I was in there one day and a guy was retuning a clock that was running backward. He tried several of them and the all ran backward... Some stuff OK, some junk..

MMMM? I'll have to take another look tonight. I am sure I had the High and Low side correct, even tried the other way just to see with no luck. I had the red for the H and blue for the L as indicated, with the H side on the car by the sensor and L back by the dryer. It seemed like the H side was larger than my connection, and the screw threads were futher down, is it possible I need some type on a quick release connection instead. I know when I had my AC worked on ,the guy had a quick release connector that he just slid on. I think the L side connection was ok, I didn't put it on as I was stuck with the H side issue.
Thanks for all of the help, and I'll try again tonight.

Most 134A systems have quick disconnects of DIFFERENT sized so people don't try to recharge their systems from that little can and plug it into the high side by accident.

I thought when I looked at my lines last night, (red and Blue) they both looked the same. And they probably were as I could hook up either end of both hoses to the gauge connections. IF they were correct, would there not be one connector (R)that was too big for the gauge? Is so, I have a bad R line.

Ok, I got it figured out. The short manuel it came with wasn't very clear on directions, went to the HF and downloaded (did not know I could do that)a better manuel and now see what I was doing wrong.Things aren't always the way they look like they should be. I feel like an idiot, but learned something new. Sorry for waisting everyones time, but I appreciate the help. I also now know how to do the pictures so thanks for that as well. Thanks all, appreciate the help.

no, BUT it had directions on how to use them, but again they weren't very clear either, so I'll have to check on that as well.

Default Have same HF guages one fitting is very tight

When looking for adapters to my old (35 years) guage set found it was cheaper to buy the whole set from HF. When you connect the hoses to the guages make sure you put the blue or low side hose on the guage reading vacuum and pressure. The guage fittings are the same but the connectors are different sizes. Make sure the screw on the connectors which pushes the pin on the schrader valves on the cars AC lines are backed out before trying to slide the connectors onto the cars fittings. One of my connectors goes on easily. The other one just snaps on with a lot of pushing and twisting before the connector locks onto the schrader valve. Must be the fitting on the vette as it goes onto outher cars schrader valves without much difficulty.
I would also recommend any type of glasses when working with freon as you don't want to get any in your eyes. If you wear glasses fine. If not a cheap pair of even plastic glasses will stop freon from getting in your eyes.
The connectors are more easily removed without excess pressure. Don't remove the high pressure or red connector with the compressor running. Shut it off and wait for the pressure to bleed off. Can remove the low pressure or blue connector with compressor running as it will be less pressure than with compressor off.

My big mistake was I had a poor manual. Once I downloaded the other one it was easy.
The original directions were just very poor, especially for a newbie to AC work. I do have glasses as I do a lot of woodworking for fun, so I'll take your advice on that, and once again appreciate the help. By the way, I did check my ac and there was nothing in it, as I thought. Taking it back to the guy who replaced the compressor, only because its still under warranty. After that, I plan on doing my own work.
