Default High Voltage message in the DIC

The last couple mornings I have been getting a "High Voltage" message in the DIC, today I got all kinds of Traction Control etc, lights and the voltage reading was 15.5. I stopped and started the car a couple of times and all lights went away and the voltage came down to 13.8 after a few miles. When I got to work I pulled the codes as follows, they were history codes.

P0171
P1637
C1237
B0361
B0363
B0367
B2284
B2283
B2285
U1016
U1096
B0851
B0856

I searched the forums and it seems the most likely culprit is the alternator/voltage regulator.

This is an 2004, is my guess on track?

If it were me,,,,,, I would start with the connections on the alternator. Make sure ALl of them are clean and tight. If the wires are loose there it will caues the alternator to freak out and do that. Also make sure the small plug on the laternator is properly connected and the wires are in good condition.

OK, checked the the cable on the back of the alternator, tight, checked the plug on top of the alternator, looked good tight and clean.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

Look at the connections at the starter solenoid which is where the alternator, battery, fuse boxes and of course the starter, all come together.

Thats most likely the area of concern.

Try this:

TEMPORARILY Run a wire from the POSITIVE battery terminal to the BATT connection on the back of the alternator and see if the problem goes away. That will bypass any issue at the solenoid if there is one.

Theres a smaller fused wire on the starter solenoid that goes to the plug (PIN D). It MUST read battey voltage cause thats what controls the alt output.

Thanks for the help, I am taking it in Sat to my local shop as I need some other work done and I will give him this info. (having the headlight motor gears replaced with one of the metal kits, a new set of C6 Z06 shocks installed and an oil/filter change)

This morning I started out to work in the dark and all seemed OK, but 5 minutes down the road on the Interstate the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree for a few seconds and then all dash and interior illumination went off. I turned the headlights off and back on and all dash lights came back with just the traction control lights still on. After I got to work, I cycled the ignition switch and all warning lights went off. I cleared all codes, they were all History codes, and we will see what gets generated this afternoon.

Thanks again,

Bill

Final Report:

After some charging tests at my mechanic it turns out it was the alternator.

Replaced and all is fine. Not cheap, but fixed.

Thanks for all the info and help.
