Test drive it and if you like it go for it.
Just be prepare and understand that their may be some issues down the road, however everything is fixable.
Plus you are doing a even trade and your car has a salvage car as well.
or did I miss something.
Good Luck!

A Vette in any condition is still better than a Horse!

Nope! Take it to a competent independent mechanic who can do a real vehicle inspection.

I must admit... The pictures look good. It is almost a twin to my 98.

Check it out completely, try to get the seller to contribute to the new exhaust and smog test, or........ Move to Oregon and enjoy the ride!
We have NO smog requirements unless you live in the Medford/Ashland or Portland area! Also NO sales tax and 2 years of license is $75.

I love it here!

Default you could do better

..but you already know that.

Stated you were new to corvettes, and the other members already loaded you up with tremendous advice on the how-to of evaluating your baby. Wish I'd known half of it before I took the plunge.

Buying any car (especially a corvette) is an emotional decision. In this case, you already know you shouldn't - it's not an investment, you'll pay more than you should or ought to and get less than you could somewhere else.

So. I predict you're going to buy the car anyway. She's gorgeous and you want to drive her. Do you think it's any different for the rest of us?

Stick around here and enjoy the friendship. I encourage you to get familiar with the stickies and the search feature. You'll need it.

Salvage isn't the kiss of death. Every car on the road is composed of used parts. But you have an expectation of quality and performance that is probably unreasonable in this instance. She rolled off the factory floor in Bowling Green as a thoroughbred - now she's a mutt. Can you live with that? Go test drive other cars so you have a basis of comparison.

"The truth is you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is to do it." - Norman Schwarzkopf

Do NOT buy this car. You will regret wasting your money and you will quickly also find out why the car has had 11 owners.

Salvage doesn't necessarily mean there was anything seriously wrong with it. I recently saw an almost brand new Harley with about 350km branded not repairable and sold at the insurance auction. All it needed was front tubes which cost a couple $100 I think. My buddy buys and sells cars and bikes and he bought it and stuck new tubes in it just to move it around so he could sell it again.

This is why it's so important to check that car over carefully for residual accident damage. It could have been something minor but it could also have been a big accident with lots of repair work done and some things not fixed correctly.

Well I decided not to buy the car. I didn't even go and check it out. After taking into account all of the advice I received here and planting my feet in reality of needing a reliable car, I didnt even want to temp my self.

I know my self...seeing that car would have made me throw all of the advice I received out the window.

I will keep looking

THANK YOU ALL for your help!

Uh, maybe for you Bill but it is warm and sunny outside right now and will be again tomorrow and the next day and the next and........oh hell, this is San Diego!!!!!

Good decision not to trade by the way. By the way the cats aren't the only issue, the long tubes would not pass the visual if you took it to a stickler type of shop. But it will pass the sniffer with LT's. I know for a fact.....if tuned that is.
