I talked to my tuner awhile back and he stated that all I needed were some headers and a small cam....and to not waste money on an intake and heads......now I thought he was crazy...but after researching a bit he may be right??? Looking for power on the street and some nice track times....can this be had with a smaller cam???...any proven numbers , cam size, suggestions???
Your tuner is partialy right. Your question is to broad. Give us
a horsepower goal give or take and you will get a more specific
answer. What are you looking for in horsepower on the ground??
Since you have the 243's with the light valves, you are a step ahead. Problem is, once you have some you want more. I have what most would consider a small cam but optimized compression and I love it because it is responsive at any RPM.
I am running stock LS1 heads, LT's, LS6 intake, mild cam and a great tune for a great tuner. Putting down 405 rwhp and 403 rwtq. That is good enough for me.

Have you ever dyno'd it somewhere else? Your #'s seem very high considering your mods.
Mods in sig and put down 409/403. The car is on thinner headgaskets to help bump up the compression a little. It rev's well and it's got great power below the curve. I wanted to go with a bigger cam but stayed with the 228R from texas-speed. May go with a Torquer 2 or something next time
Yes sir, two different dyno's different times of the year, both resulted in + or - in both HP and TQ. I also have a fully customized CAI system. Next mod is some TEA heads.

Ed Curtis cuts this cam AZPS03 in my friends CamaroSS M6 with LT, tune, had 241 heads with 921 spring upgrade only, and this cam he made 420 rwhp. cutting 12's @ 114mph in Tucson with a god awful DA.

I'd love to be able to hit the high 10's at the track.w/o loosing low end torque on the street..but I don't believe this to be a reality with a smaller cam. I'd like to have a nice lope, basically the max I could go without changing the heads and get the most performance...Is this possible?

If you get a bigger cam, you need more air an deliver more fuel to the cylinders. Then you need to be able to exhaust it correctly. It all works together. I did cam heads exhaust an have 435rwhp an 400lbs torque.
