Default Oil dipstick

Why is the oil dipstick on the LS1 shapped in a spirol manor? Also right after the oil full mark there is a w shaped space? I noticed I am at the full mark then the area right before the "w" is dry but then the "w" shappped area is full of oil too. I know I will get ragged on this but for some reason this bothers me.

Just fill it to the full line and you're good.

Who knows why it's a spiral shape..

The spiral shape allows the dipstick to conform to the hole much better than the old flat type.

Just make sure your car is level, fill the crankcase to the recommended capacity, and make note of the oil level on the dipstick.

Hey lucky,

I've got a question for you if you have a sec..

I've always bought the 5 quart jug of mobil plus 2 singles.

If I jack the car up completely level or even try and tilt towards the oil drain plug hole in the front of the oil pan...

I can never get more than about 6 quarts before it reads full on the dipstick??

It's supposed to be 6.5 and my car has been fine but it's just something that I've wondered about

You're never going to get it all out. Hell I barely get 6 in there. Just fill it to full and sleep well at night

OK I thought you may have been paying attention..I posted the answer to that questions several times. The design was made to keep the blade in the center of the tube, thus avoiding false oil signatures.

Another C5 Trivia question ! I never knew that, I can see how it works. Now, why don't other GM cars use this?

Does anyone else find the dipstick unreadable? I get oil smeared all through the measuring window (with wipe downs, repeated tries, etc.).
