I've been using Mobil 1 in all my vehicles for over fifteen years. From personal experience, I would say that using synthetic oil in your vehicle greatly extends the life of your engine. At least that has been my experience. My daily driver is a '94 Ford Explorer. It has 277,000 miles on it at present and has never even had the valve covers off. I change the oil every five thousand miles and I don't have to add oil between changes. And this has been the norm with all my vehicles. Extremely high miles and no problems. So, on a high performance vehicle like our Corvettes, it's cheap insurance to use what the manufacturer recommends. Just my 2 cents. Enjoy!
