Sorry for stirring up a hornets nest. I am really suprised by some of the responses. I wasn't trying to insult anyones intelligence. I was only stating my own experience as backwards as it may sound. I am on here to learn and have fun. Its all good. Life is way to short believe me.

So if you have a 2001 6sd vert and choose to lose the 4 cat system by putting a z06 (2cat) h-pipe on with a Corsa x-pipe can or should you expect a little better breathing? Will this setup have all the O2 bungs that the '01 computer expects to see? I will probably install a Z06 Ti catback or Corsa touring

Mine are hollowed out -- don't do it man...
I don't know how much a difference in sound it is - but the smell isn't the greatest.

There's no power gain.

You mean you didn't get 15 Rear Wheel HP like the other guy did?

Maybe I did -- I didn't dyno test it though... Didn't feel any different at the pedals...

I was being sarcastic to the guy claiming the HP increase.

From my understanding, hollowing cats will only hinder exhaust flow and cost potential power. I am all for the removal of the cats (still have mine for now), but simply hollowing the cats out isn't the best way to go. It will be louder, but at a small cost to power potential.

I would have normally already had my local shop install pipe in place of the cats, but I like to do things a little more proper on the Vette so I'm just gonna buy Magnaflows off-road pipe.

Brand new Cat's installed from a '98 & Magnaflow X-Over - What a HUGE difference in sound... Borla Stinger dual tip sounds SO nice... Low, beautiful groan... No annoying sputter & pop on deceleration... No more smelling like gas.

Keep your cats or upgrade to high flows. No cats aren't worth it. At most 10hp, smells like ****, so loud your ears will bleed, and cops will pull you over for fix it tickets every 3 miles.

I'm just surprised that no one has yet brought up the fact that cats are there for a very good reason. They help keep the air that we and our children breath, clean. Don't get me wrong, I am far from being a "tree-hugger" or I would be driving something like a Prius or Smart. But come on, is it worth polluting the air for a slight (mostly perceived) horsepower gain? Seriously though, is it really that important whether or not there's smog testing in the particular state (or province) that you live in? Don't you want to at least try to do your part. These cars were designed to make a lot of clean horsepower while keeping emissions low and fuel mileage up. It was quite an achievement. Don't you think?

I didn't experience ANY of these problems when I used the %25 PB UD pulley for over 3 years.

Hmm, I changed the pulley and now,

Car temp creeps up in traffic or when idling a lot.

Voltage slowly drops in traffic or when idling a lot.

Power steering doesn't work quite as well at idle. A slight rev of the engine and the wheel is much easier to turn.

So don't be so arrogant to tell me what I experience is BS. Maybe it works for your typical driving but I noticed a change in all 3 since installing the pulley. If I'm in traffic and the temps are climbing and the voltage is dropping I can drive in 1st at 1000rpm or even just hold 1000rpm while stopped and the car will respond positively so it's definately the accessory speed. I had to turn off the AC in a big traffic jamb one evening when it was maybe 80F out to keep the car from over heating - and I don't mean the stock hi fan temps either, it hit 245F and was still climbing. I had no-where to turn for a stretch and nothing was moving. If the AC didn't work then the next step was pulling over. I had no problems with the car running hot like that before the U/D pulley. We don't get hot days like in Texas either so I don't want to see the O/P who lives in Texas go into this blindly.

Seems to me that if GM knew they could run the alternator and water pump 25% slower and the car would still work at idle then they would have done so. I listened to the "they're great" crowd here and it basically screwed me. When I get into a traffic situation I find I just get by instead of not having to even worry.

I do run highways a fair bit and it works fine there. As long as you're not idling a bunch you're good. So, as I first posted, if you do a fair bit of idling and especially if you'll be in traffic or idling at night then I would not take a chance with that part.

Peter
