Default Driver Information Center (DIC) buttons nonfunctional

Recently my DIC started to randomly display all the various pages (temps, tire pressures, etc) on its own. It periodically changes the display to a new one as if the buttons were being pressed. The buttons themselves are not functional so I have no control over the display. I have tried cleaning the general chassis ground connectors as described in the post and they were in good shape.
Is there any guidance on a more focused diagnostic of the DIC buttons and their associated connectors. Seems like a poor grounding or connector issue. How do you get to the harness, ground, etc of the DIC?

Look in the driver's door jam accordian tube for a possible shorting wire to the frame. Its the serial data buss which will cause your issues or at least has been the usual cause.

Everything looks good with the wires in the door jamb. The mirror control, power lock buttons and window buttons on the door work fine. Opening up the dash for access to the actual electronics looks like a daunting task especially with no real clues to trouble shoot.

Has the cluster been off for gauge rings or anything?

You may have the harness plug coming loose in the back of the cluster. Not a challenging pull at all.

No work has been done in the dash area, or really anywhere else. The DIC just started to go crazy. Now it is stuck on the display of the transmission temperature, and all buttons are non-responsive. It is still useless but at least not so annoying.

I am reluctant to spend the time and effort to take the dash area apart just to look for loose connectors, unless that is a very likely resolution. If there was a specific target to go after it would make sense to me, but I am hoping to know going in to such a job that there is a solution at hand rather than just fishing, if you know what I mean. While there has been some great trouble shooting ideas posted, I haven't seen a post yet that shows a definitive solution to this problem, although there seems to be many with the same issue.

I'd push each button like 50 times..one could be stuck down somehow even though it doesn't seem like it?

edit: It will only take you an hour maybe an hour and a half to remove the dash your first time. It's not as bad as it would seem..
