Winter Storage Power Supply
I have been doing this for five years without any problems. When I install the battery in the spring, the voltage is still hot in the optima and she fires right up.
I work with computers and I know that there are certain components (motherboards, RAID controllers, etc.) that have batteries to take over memory when the main power source is not available.
I notice that during the time that my corvette is sleeping in the winter, it keeps the memory of all my setting, trip odometers, oil life etc. without the main battery power supply. Does the corvette use batteries on any components to keep that memory and am I harming the life of those batteries by removing the main power source for 5 months?
I searched the forum and I looked through the factory manuals and I could not find anything on this subject.
It's called flash memory...
motherboard - the battery is to keep the date and clock correct.
RAID Controller - the battery is to finish any disk writes if the power fails.
I bet you've noticed that the clock is not set when you reconnect the battery.
