Default DRL out again!

My right front drl & turn signal is out again. I've had my Vette for about two years and this is the fifth time the light has gone out. Must have happened before, because the socket is broken and I have to silicone it back in after light replacement. Two questions: has anyone else had this problem or has an idea what causes it, and where can I get a replacement socket from? My local dealer wants to sell me the whole harness.

moisture enters the housing and blows the bulb. only happens on mine when I run it through a no touch car wash.

Look down through the headlight at the top of the housing right above the bulb. You'll see a grey colored piece with a round hole in it. I bet you can see a crack in the housing through that hole. Water leaks through the crack right onto the hot bulb and blows it.

The best fix is new housings and LED bulbs. Depo has some reasonably priced housing that are frequently sold on Ebay. Forum user JW@JWMotoring.com has a good deal on LED's. Look in the C5 Parts forum for his posts.

DRL Socket:

GM 12083689,
AC Delco LS15
or
Dorman 85882. (Autozone SHOULD have these,or can get them)

AC part costs apx. $42.00

What I do now is turn the parking lights on before entering the car wash or if it starts to rain.

No need for all new parts- just the sockets. (unless the connector on the housing is broken, but that's hard to do)
I've been through ~10 bulbs, countless frustration, etc. Horrible design.

Pull the front wheels, open up the access panels so it's easier to get to the bulb area, and replace the sockets with new ones. Cut, solder, and shrink tube (or tape)

Now, feel directly above to the bulb on the housing- there's a sunken in circle- a great place for water to collect. There's usually a crack or hole there due to the heat from the bulb directly beneath.

Cut out some 1.5" by 1.5" squares of sheet metal- just about any metal will work.

Get some JB weld. First put some JB weld on the cracks of the housing, then slather a bunch on the edges of the metal squares you just cut. Place them on top of those divots on the housing.

Fixed. Cheap. No one is ever going to judge you on this fix, and it's much easier than yanking the housings out.
I had CONSTANT problems until I did this- going on a year now with NO issues.

Order new corner lights from JW and when I took the old lens out there was a hole born in the housing from the lights. JW has a great product.

autozone's website says that part number is not for a 99 corvette and it gave me this parts number 85832, i'm not sure which one to go with.
