i keep getting the 'active handling warming up' on the DIC for about 30min of driving before it shuts off. kind of a pain. the car was tuned in SD so the IAT is not connected. should the IAT be plugged into something? the steering was not disconnected at anytime. any ideas
Yes, it's because your IAT is disconnected. The Active Handling system uses the air temperature reading from the IAT to have an idea of the kind of driving conditions it may be dealing with. Without this information the active handling system won't activate, hence the display on the DIC. The IAT sensor is on the drivers side of the intake bridge, before the throttle body. The connector comes from beneath the bridge.
The IAT connectors on the wiring harness side are known to go bad. I had the same active handling issue on my 99. I didn't research it until my tuner told me he couldn't tune the car without the IAT data. Once I spliced in a new connector from the stealership the IAT was back and the car was tunable and the active handling code was gone.
You really need to get the IAT hooked back up. The car needs that data to run properly. Not only does the active handling need that data but the fuel management system does too. Yes, it can extrapolate and the computer can work backwards to guestimate it, but that effects driveability and response. More importantly perhaps is that I don't know how the car could have been tuned well without that data?
Why on earth would you disconnect the IAT to tune in SD?
It's easy to fix just get the older sensor from a 97-98 and install it in the air bridge and tune it back in.
I love when guys start hacking on their car know little or nothing about what their doing.
hey guys i didnt tune the car. i sent it to forum sponsor. thats the way i got the car back. they took the MAF off the car and replaced it with a solid rubber tube. theres no where to plug the MAF wires back in. hey dougbfresh, i did all the work on my car, heads, cam, exhaust, wilwood brakes, stereo system, clutch, etc etc. and yes i did extensive research. hey why am i explaining myself to u? the only thing i did not do was the tune. i figured someone else might have there car SD tuned and might have the same problem with the active handling. i guess i will give the tuner a call tomorrow if no one has any advice. thanks pat
Active Handling Warming Up normally comes on when you first start your car and continue turning for a while. Active Handling needs a certain time with the wheels pointed straight ahead to calibrate itself.

If you have your wheels cocked when you start the car, etc... the steering position sensor sends a signal that the steering wheel is not in the right position and thus throws a code.
You can also get these codes from your front end being out of alignment.
