Just bought an 03 z06 a week ago. I've been daily driving it about 15 miles round trip a day to and from work. It has a g5x3 cam in it with full exhaust and a tune which was performed about two years ago when the parts were installed.

This is my first vette so im not too sure of what the "norm" is about these cars but im slowly learning.

A question im curious about is whenever the car is turned on after it has been running for a while (engine still warm) the car will turn right on but will bog badly as if its about to die and will always catch itself and idle at 1,000 rpms. On cold starts the car doesnt do this at all. Not sure if its suppose to do this. It runs strong and I havent had any codes until this evening when leaving work.

Checked the codes and the only thing that appeared was the P 0106 H was the only code. Do you think this code could have been set due to the car bogging out so badly when its turned on while the engine is warm? It will drop down to 400-600 rpms and sound like its about to stall. Not sure if this rpm drop while the engine is running would set the map sensor code off.

And for future reference what shop could someone recommend to me for any engine work or a tune in the middle Tennessee area?

 

Check to see if some "tuner" drilled the thottle plate.

 

Since you have no idea on the tune I recommend that you have someone take a look at it. G5x3 is on the larger size for a stock cubes. It's been my experience that cammed cars are heat sensitive. When the car sits the intake and IAT sensor heat soaks making it harder on the computer to figure out what is going on. Does it clear up by the time you get 100 yards down the road? You will also find that the car doesn't idle or drive as smooth at low RPMs during hot humid days.

 

It seems to only bog until the car is warmed up but once its warmed up and I turn the car off and turn it back on it will almost die because the rpms will dip so low and the car struggles to stay on. But it has never stalled when the rpms drop on a warm start up.

The car had everything installed and tuned by lg motorsports a few years ago. It still drives perfectly fine though. I just happened to get that engine code and was curious on how I should handle it.

Do you think i should reset it and see how soon the code is thrown again?

I havent had the car long enough to tell how it will idle on humid days but so far once the car is warmed up it stays at a solid 1,000 rpms all the time at idle.

 

It sounds like you are still getting some surge. Adding a cam usually takes a number of tuning attempts to get the idle tuning correct. You will need to have it tuned again.

 

Check the codes on the car first and let's see what the light is saying. Could be a sensor...could be a number of things.
