Default Original vararam, do I have any filter options?

I have the OEM crappy foam one and it is starting to fall apart. Anyone know if I can get a K&N or something similar? Thanks

I've read that a K&N filter for a "1974 - 1982 TRIUMPH TR7 2.0L L4 CARB - All" will work. However, I just bought a new filter from Vararam. If you contact them don't buy into the updated upper housing because I did and it didn't fit as well as the old one. Also, the filter was not sealed into the housing. There was gaps between the gasket in the new housing and the filter. So, I just used some RTV and sealed the filter into my origional upper housing and it works good. I just washed it with the housing and filter still together.

Call VARARAM. They have an up-graded filter and upper duct that will allow you to use the CORRECT green filter and seals. I got mine at Carlisle from the VARARAM dealer at the American Racing Header tent.

If you call, they will ship you one directly to your house.

VARARAM is supporting the older unit up grades.

Once again, the parts Vararam will try to sell you will leave gaps between the filter and the upper housing gasket. I guarantee it. You can listen to them and buy and install their new parts kit that allow allow air to bypass the filter or you can just buy the filter, save yourself about $50 and figure out your own way to seal the new filter into your existing upper housing.

Here's a post I put up when I got my parts. Notice the gap between the gasket and the filter. There were gaps on the ends of the filter as well. The new parts do not seal. What I found interesting was that Vararam was active in that thread yet no comment from them about my post...

If you do a search for Vararam and K&N you will find info on using a K&N in your intake.

So any filter I get will not seal properly? Am I better off just making a new filter w/ foam like the OEM first generation filter?

I bought the K&N and trimmed it to fit (the filter doesn't quite fit but trimmed fits good. The issue became sealing the filter. I used silicone to glue it into the upper housing and there were no air leaks. For cleaning, I just left it in the housing and cleaned it.
