Default TPMS: O-ring vs grommet

My 2000 uses the older more expensive TPMS sensors, with the replaceable #9 O-ring.
I just bought new Schrader sensors # 28006 from Tirerack, and they
have the 2001-2004 style stepped grommet installed on the stem.

I know these are the right part number - I checked several sources including Schrader.

I assume these grommets are compatible with my stock 2000 wheels?
I assume I don't need a #9 O-ring also?
I assume this is just an update, and is ready to bolt on?

Tks,
DG

I'm running into this same problem right now trying to put 97 sensors on newer wheels. Does GM sell the grommet style O rings seperate? I'm a tech at BMW and we don't sell them seperate so if not where would I be able to get these? Is it something dealers usually stock? Thanks.

You can buy the O rings in the plumbing section at Lowes or Home Depot.

I'm looking for the grommet style, not the O ring style the 97-99 sensors used.

Either seal will work for the 97-00 sensors but for the 01+ sensors you have to use the 01+ seal

I think what he wanted to say is: You can find the new style sensor seal in a faucet washer repair kit. Japc5, Please correct me if I'm wrong.

In that repair pack there are washers JUST like or very simular to the rubber washers on the new style sensors.

I bet one of the faucet washers and a little blue RTV and you would be golden.

GM sells the grommets separately, part #25715243 is for 1997-2003 C5's.

Where did you get this information? I was at the dealer earlier and it shows it seperately on their screen but it says it's not available seperately?

That number was from a GM TSB, but has now been discontinued. But the grommet, valve core & nut is available from Schrader part #20003.

You can use the grommets that comes on standard screw on metal
valve stems at your local parts store or wheel shop
