Default Cams (i'm sure a beating down subject)

I recently purchased my first Corvette a 1997 and have started to look at adding a cam package. First off the car has 60,000 miles, 6 speed manual, varam air intake, kooks headers with a b&b exhaust (no cats or muffler) I'd like to get something that is fairly mild good low end and mid range power along with having a nice loping (sp?) sound. Not sure if I want to tackle as a dyi or have it all installed. I'd also look into upgrading the timing chain, oil pump and adding an under belt pulley. So I am looking for suggestions from the great forum, bring em on and yes I have searched the forum too. Thanks much!

You will get a LOT of suggestions here unless you get as specific as you can on a couple of things;
Are you going to add heads later?
DD or weekend cruiser with occasional trip to the track?
Cams in the 224-228 / 570-590 range with 113-114 LSA are good all around dependable performers that work great whether you decide go go with heads later or stay stock

Look into having Pat G custom spec you a cam with EPS lobes.
Can't go wrong that way, not much extra and it will be made for exactly what YOU want!

He's on ls1tech.com EPS lobes are not quite as hard on the valve train and giving making great numbers.

But, if you want an off the shelf... There are a lot that have been tried and true.
I'd go no smaller than a 228 personally.

Englandgreen mayhem 2 Cam package. You get everything that you mentioned and more for a good price. You will love the Cam. Very streetable and very strong power. Look it up on YouTube. I installed it myself and it was pretty easy. You have to get a good tune after install. You will not be disappointed with that Cam....

Go to the LS1Tech .com forum and then go to the Gen III Internal forum and you can research for days. That's what I did and I'm getting ready to install a Texas Speed 228R cam.

Just had a ton of "help" installing a 228 230 585 588 113 LSA in my LS1.

Patriot Gold dual springs, etc.

Very streetable with a nice lope. (idle set at 875 by the dyno tuner). Low end TQ and HP all the way up to high Rpms. Can't wait to take it to the track.

Along with shocks, rotors/pads and metal end links,,,,all new car!

Heads and intake and then I am done,,,,no hurry though!

Make sure you do an LS6 intake manifold conversion as well, otherwise you will be leaving significant power on the table. The LS1 intake manifold is garbage.

Six months ago I had a H/C pkg installed. I used new LS6 (243) heads. I already had the LS6 intake stock. I used a 224/230 .585/.595 113 LSA.

It is in a DD. It has gobs o' power low and mid-range. (Mustang dynoed @ 416 rwhp/392 rwtq). Park idle = 900; In-gear idle = 750

When you hear this car you have NO doubt it has a cam. You can definitely hear the lope. In fact, you can feel the lope too. At a stop, it will slightly shake you.

FYI, another local forum member had the same cam installed on his car except it had the 114 LSA. His idle both sounded and felt like stock.

Hope that helps.

It sounds like our v2(22x/23x) would suit you well, it's a torque monster and would compliment a set of ported heads later on down the road. We are having a sale on cam kits right now for $775 and that includes PRC dual springs, pushrods, timing cover and water pump gaskets, new crank bolt and seal! We can of course add in the other things for you. Just call me at the shop for a quote, Chris

Put in a GM Hotcam in my last LS motor. Loved it. Very nice lope at idle. And with the 525 lift you never have to worry about breaking springs or changing them all the time. Just put the cam and LS6 springs in and forget it. As reliable as stock. Put a 100k miles on it no problem.
