Default Lifter Preload Question

I'm going back on with my newly decked heads and I want to check pushrod length. How do I get the perload out of the lifter before checking for pushrod length?
Thanks....

I had the heads decked 0.030 in. Is there a formula I can use toget the pushrod checker in the ball park to start the process?

You will want to add about ~.060 to the pushrod length after zero lash to compensate for preload, this is for LS7 lifters, some have gone as far as .100 more but I think thats high. Piston needs to be TDC on the compression stroke when checking.

Not sure if you have a cam but the stock length is 7.385" (gauge length) so removing 0.030" would result in 7.355" or without going custom 7.350" (gauge length). That should ball park your measured zero lash value plus preload. (Note that the stock setups I have measured typically were 0.100" of preload) If you have an aftermarket cam, these values will change.
