So i missed CAM 101 at School. I need to better understand CAMS to make the right decision. Could somebody explain the difference b/w 224/230 and 230/224? I know that reverse split give higher torque but why? What is the 112,114,116 mean? Which is better? Durations?
From what i have read. I feel that a 224/230 cam will be good for me. Its a good street cam, mild idle, would yield 45-50rwhp. I have a C5 6 speed, Halltech intake, headers, catback, no cats, diablo. Stock gears and stock heads. In the future may installed a LS6 manifold and some ported 243 heads. Aim is 420rwhp.

David Vizard also wrote a good book on cams. It focuses on the small block but the basics are the same. I personally wouldn't run a reverse split cam on these motors.

The LS seems to like more exhaust duration than intake. The size you're talking about (224/230) is one that you can get great results from. The LSA affects the idle characteristics, so if you want a nice lope, stick with a 112 or lower. There's a cam guru over at ls1tech.com name of Patrick G. that's spent alot of time dissecting cam designs. He can even design a cam that'll fit your needs better, and you needn't be afraid of custom grinds. Good luck, and your goal is easily attainable.
