Is there any negative effects to the suspension, leaving a C5 up on jack stands with the wheels hanging unsupported for a few months?

Thanks!

I have done this several times. There is a fair amount of creaking when you set it down and the first few miles of driving though.

It's easy enough to put a floor jack under the control arm each corner and lift up just a bit, then stick blocks or whatever under the tires so that the suspension isn't at the end of its travel while the car sits. Probably unnecessary, but I always do it just because the car looks so sad with things sagging down. Kinda like my last girlfriend.

The general consensus is to split the difference 50/50. Get most of the weight off the tires but still allow them to sit on the ground so the suspension isn't fully extended.

The only item that is taken into consideration is usually the springs. Well, I really don't think the springs will increase in the tension as a result of "hanging", so feel free to set the car on stands for as long as you like.

Not sure why anyone would think it would damage or otherwise provide for negative effects.

I hope not. I've had the car on stands in the garage for the whole winter the last 2 years while doing work on it. I haven't noticed any problems.

Other than the fact that you will have over 8 inches of gap between your tires and fenders and it looks like a truck you should be fine.

It's not the springs that suffer. It is bad for the shocks to be distended with the weight hanging on them. Google is your friend.

Yes. You can't drive it that way.

People could just drive their cars. I just put over 2k miles on my car this week, and have over 25k since March.

Anywho, there are pro's and con's to everything in life, it's just a matter of choosing a priority.

If there's any question in your mind you could think about changing to a system like this. These are wheel cribs by race ramps.

Is all the weight on the tires, like it would be sitting on the ground?

I couldn't agree more. I prefer bald spots over flat spots when it comes to tires. 110,000. and still runs strong.

Yes and no. All the weight is on the tires, which I figure is the best way to lift a car (assuming you're not working on the suspension). But it's better than being on the ground since the tires are on a curved foam surface instead of flat concrete. So the likelihood and severity of flat spotting the tires should be significantly less. Although leaving it this way for several months might not be a good idea. My car is rarely lifted for longer than a weekend.

Incidentally, when it comes to my head, I think I'd prefer a flat spot to a bald spot.

Ya, well the snow falling here screws with the ability to drive the car in the winter.
