I just have to ask: what's with all the lecturing the young guy for? He asked how to make his car faster and everyone is talking to him like he's an idiot.

Because he mentioned his Dad. I know that if I had access to a Corvette in my teen years that sooner or later I would have had to see just what top speed was. It was/is an innocent question that was posed and he got plenty of answers but sometimes you just feel something else needs to be said. FWIW I now know that when I was a teenager I was an idiot judgment wise.
4.10 gears will make it feel like an entirely different car...
add headers and a tune and you will not be dissapointed...
go with the biggest bang for the buck now unless you know you're goign to be able to put big dollars into it later... If you go forced induction or major engine mods later swapping the gears again will be the least of your expenses...
imho
ps. drives a "stock" (engine internals) ls1 2000 coupe with 4.10 gears, dte brace, brakes, exhaust, upgrade, couple other minor suspension upgrades and loves it. 28 mpg on the highway, 16-22 in town depending on mood, 80 mph at 2200 rpms in 6th gear...

This is true, I haven't however taken the car near it's top speed, or plan to on any main roads. My parents and grandparents bought me the car because it was my dream car and they felt I was responsible enough for it (i'm 17) I've never gotten a ticket or even gotten pulled over, gotten in any wreck, or even tapped someone. My dad realizes that i'm responsible enough for the car, and a good enough driver to handle it (as long as it's not like 600 hp That's why he's willing to mod the car further.
As someone posted, I kid around with my dad with asking to put a supercharger on, however, for the price it doesn't seem completely worth it. I think going with the new gears and a couple other mods would be worthy. The cars most likely going to be blower free forever, unless I sell it.
You are a very fortunate young man and I'm glad that you have a wonderful family, & sounds like you have your head screwed on straight. Good luck with your car and enjoy. 4:10's should make it a rocketship out of the hole.
