Ugh please tell me I don't have a bad lifter... The noise is always there, and it keeps in pace with engine RPM. I tried to take a video, but the camera mic is terrible...
Pull your valve covers and look for a broken spring. Look closely! You should be able to find it also by sound. Its possible that you have a weak lifter, but more probable its a spring.
My 2002 has 31,000 miles. when I start it, I get a tick, tick tick, but once it warms up, it goes away, and doesn't come back until the engine is cold again. I'm assuming it's a lifter as well, but, would it have to be replaced if it pumps up after warmup ??

Your's sounds like a lifter bleeding down when cold although I would not expect it yet with only 31k on the clock.
I had a broken valve spring a few months ago. There are COMP 918's in the car now.
Did you get a chance to perform a leak-down test on the cylinder that had the offending valve spring? I'd imagine a bent valve (in the aforementioned cylinder) could throw the P0300 code as well.
