Day 2: Remove Water pump, Alt., Power steering bracket, Power steering rack, and Crank pulley.
Got a little cleaning to do tomorrow then I'll move onto removing the Coils, valve covers, Rockers, etc. And hopefully, install the cam on Friday. So far, the toughest part by far is removing the PS rack. That was a lot of fun.... . Very good learning experience as this is my first attempt at doing a cam swap. Should be lots of fun..
One thing you may want to do is suck some of the coolant out of the block otherwise it will continually drip while you are working and it is a pain. You don't need to remove much, just enough to get the level down below the water pump ports.
Good luck with the installation, I have done a few and had fun each time.
If your only doing a cam install you didn't have to remove the alt bracket and the power steering pump or the throttle body.
I wanted a little more room to work. Makes it much easier to work in my opinion. So far it's going pretty good considering I'm only working on it a couple hours a night.

Wait until you start to put it back in
Mine just didn't want to go back the way it came out
If no one has mentioned, pay REAL CLOSE attention to the pump o-ring and don't pinch it on the install. That has casued more than a few engines to have to be torn back down

Subscribing as i self spec'd that came on a 111+1 lsa. im interested in the lsl lobes. just curious, who spec'd the cam for you? im looking for more info on it.
Ok guys, I'm stuck! Trying to insert the 5/16 rods to hold the lifters up. The passenger side went in a little tough but the driver side goes about 1/3 of the way in then it stops. I've tried just about everything i can think of. I tried using a pen magnet to pull up the lifter but the rod still doesn't go any further than the 1/3 of the way. If i went to a smaller 3/16 rod would this still keep the lifters from falling past the rod? Any ideas?

Either you did not rotate the engine 360 degrees, after removing the rockers, or the trays are not holding the lifters.
I rotated the engine after removing the rockers. If the trays aren't holding the lifter properly. What are my options? The passenger side went all the way in.
I've tried just about everything. I guess it's time to call is a day and come back to it tomorrow. I got the passenger side in all the way and the driver side almost half way. I may get some pen magnets to hold the back two lifters and just pull them cam. However, I'm a little nervous about using the magnets after all the horror stories of the magnets breaking off. I guess if this doesn't work or I do break a magnet, it will turn into a head/cam project.
