2001 Z06 throttle response

Check for any codes first, then check everything in the intake like the filter and MAF, make sure is all clean (don't touch MAF wires). Also see if the cats could be clogged, could possibly affect performance. Last make sure your plugs are good and wires are good.

If you are not using premium fuel then the engine will knock upon acceleration causing the PCM to pull timing, reducing HP.
What you are describing may also be torque management. It reduces engine HP under certain conditions to help protect the drive train. It makes for a sort of soft feel in acceleration. Sometimes it feels like the engine is falling flat on it's face. As an A4 owner I am definitely not a fan. It may be less noticeable in the M6. Reducing or removing it requires a tune.

Have you driven other ZO6's? It very well could be the norm. Like posted above, post codes if there are any present. If you haven't tuned the car up, fresh plugs, a clean maf, and filters should do the trick.

Thanks for the info. I only run Sunoco 93. I did the plugs, wires and fuel filter about a year ago. Car has 44k on it. There are no codes. It seem great when I go all out.

Starting to sound like your just used to the power. Time for mods. In all seriousness without any sort of data logging, and or nearby dyno, might be tough to tell.

Until you accurately describe what you are feeling, it could be anything from NORMAL to 100 issues.
I recommend finding another stock C5 ZO6 , driving it and then explain what you feel.
Why are you so adverse about tuning? Sure its a chunk of change but, I know someone that can take ALL that throttle lag out of the picture!!! The new tune will put a smile on your face.

I did have it on a dyno a few months back. As mentioned it is an 01 Z...the mods are basic, I got rid of the pre cats by using the front pipe from an 03 Z06. I have a Vararam intake and that's about it. The dyno showed 422 @ the crank and 367 RWHP.

sounds about right as far as the dyno goes... any competent tuner should be able to make the throttle much more responsive as long as there isn't something else going on with the car or you aren't causing it by lugging the engine at low rpms in a high gear

My coupe has around 460whp, but i wouldn't exactly call the throttle responsive. It seems like it wants to be very tame until the throttle is pushed down around half way, then it realizes I want to go fast and enters terrifying death machine mode. Just pretend it's turbo lag. haha

Something is wrong with this picture, a stock 01 with Veraram and no pre-cats making 422 at the crank?. You do not have the 02+ cam, Veraram, with tune is good for maybe 8-10HP and pre-cats cut 2.5HP at the crank according to GM engineering. When using dyno to estimate crank HP on a corvette, a 11-12% loss is about average. Most 02-04 Vettes made 356-360 HP on Dynojet dyno. If the previous owner had a cam installed the 420HP would seem OK. Also, it the PO had it tuned, they might have made changes to max HP and loose all the low end acceleration. Find a good tuner who can run a scan/log to correct the tune. While he is doing the tuning have him remove most of the DBW lag. IF the tuner does not know how to do it find another tuner.

I got a mail order tune from ECS and am very pleased with it. They are affordable ~$150 and it took about a week of down time shipping from Florida. They are in NJ close to you so it's a no brainier. They can probably program your PCM in minutes including any firmware updates. I wish I lived near ECS.

Here is the ECS thread https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...nly-149-a.html
They are highly recommended and have excellent customer service.
Chuck Cow does mail order tunes as well but I cannot comment on his tunes from experience.

Any idea if a MAP sensor would cause any lagging? I had my intake manifold off a few weeks ago, and it's a FAST intake that doesn't secure the MAP sensor as well as the stock setup. It's pretty darn loose in the hole, and I can't imagine it's getting a good reading. I've been meaning to get back in there and thread a barbed fitting in there and zip-tie the MAP to a short length of hose so it'll seal better.

Just purchase a MAP relocation kit. They work fantastic. I have on my 02 Z home ported FAST 90.
