on a normal day mine would never get above 205 unless I was running it hard. This temp was because of the spun bearing.

I don't mean to hijack, but I think my question is related. If you are going to replace only your shortblock, and want quality materials for a FI application, but you want to reuse your aftermarket heads, can you use a block with a larger bore? The stock bore pretty much limits you to a 383, and I've read this configuration isn't very long lived, due to the connecting rods geometry. Can heads be redone to work with larger bores, or is that even needed? My dream engine is a 4.125" X 4" 427. But I love my TF heads, and would like to keep them.

I believe ls1 heads can work on a ls2, but not larger bore

I am droping a LS2 long block into mine.

thanks everyone.
Why not just overbore your current block and go with a 370ci. It'd last longer than a 383ci and make just as much power.

That is also an option. Got the motor ready to be pulled this weekend to see the real damage. But I will look into the 370 and research more about it
