Have a 2000 vette this just started where after inshut it off it will keep running what would cause this? It doesn't do it all the time but once in s while thanks.
Not a problem I've seen for many years but the usual candidates for engine run on are:
Using low octane gas (but we have a knock sensor to compensate)
sticking throttle idle allowing the engine to idle too fast
badly adjusted timing
A bad thermostat allowing the engine to run hot
I'm still not clear whether the OP's car is dieseling after the ignition switch is off or the car is idling normally after ignition switch is in off position.
Dieseling sounds like a very lumpy choking, coughing, pinging idle. It could never be described as a normal idle.
Engine run on is very unlikely in a fuel injected car. With carburetors it was possible because there was fuel in the bowl for the venturi effect to draw and the fuel pump was mechanical. If you had some source of ignition it could keep going. With fuel injection once the ignition is cut there is no more fuel even if a hot part was able to ignite it.
I agree with ignition switch servicing or replacement.
