Anyone know where I can get a VATS bypass for 2001 vette? I want to order one and have it shipped in Fedex - plug and play - I hope.
Adaptive performance is too slow. No response. No shipping date, etc. Ordered one on April 4, 2011.
Thanks to the forum and vette owners:
1. fixed turn signal problem - came on intermittingly - replaced hazard
switch
2. fixed check engine light problem - no check engine light - cigarette
fuse was not connected properly
3. changed oil sensor thanks to post 76 without removing manifold, etc.
4. changed spark plugs
5. replaced water pump.
6. replaced headlight gear passenger side.
7. replaced radiator - had a hairline crack on left side plastic piece at
top of radiator
8. thanks for product recommendations
Since bypassing the VATS requires using a precision resistor that matches the ohm value of the pellet on the key (15 different values for the C5) I have never seen a "plug and play" solution.
Bypassing it is pretty straight forward. First step is to measure the resistance of the pellet in your key. It will be one of the values in the following table:
Second step is to go to Radio Shack and purchase a precision resistor of the value of your key pellet. Some times you have to purchase multiple resistors and solder them in series to get the correct value.
Third step is to locate the 2 wire connector on the ignition switch that has only 2 white wires. Disconnect the connector and attach the resistor(s) you bought to the piece of the connector that goes up into the dash. (ie you do NOT attach then to the part that is on the ignition switch)
Bypass completed.
TO the poster that suggested a key with no resistor chip, that is a guaranteed way to keep the car from starting.......
Actually I did the bypass on my Vette 7 years ago using Radio Shack +/- 10 % resistors and have NEVER had a vats issue since ! see link here : http://www.c5help.com/bypass_vat.htm
Simple answer buy the Radio Shack Standard Resistors, solder together in series and jump the connection opposite the 2 white wires. Insert key and try to start car if it starts finish the job properly and put everything back together.

Reason: added simple answer
You just got lucky, that the resistors were close to their nominal value......
Actually don't know about Luck, I have a good multimeter and tried several resistor combo's to get the exact value of the resistor pellet in the key. I did not accept in my case 1469 or 1471 as close enough.. 1470 on the nose ! Not (acceptable range 1411-1549)
Thanks everyone, after taken things apart, I found the problem. The car already had a bypass with a round circuit thing that held half a key with a chip in it. The half key was hanging out. I made sure the key was in tight. It started right up.
Response to a poster that was on exactly once in May 2011 and never since............
That's ok, I wasn't offering any help anyway. I just wanted a chance to use my quadruple negative line. I can see why he didn't come back though. I wouldn't post anything else either.
