I know it's a simple question but I'm having trouble nailing down the answer. There are just so many threads on this issue of valley covers that it's difficult to get a definitive answer. Thanks guys.
So if my LS1 has the LS6 valley cover. Then I would only need a single catch can with hoses from the valley cover to the throttlebody?
Yes and no. The 04's have the later cover with the PCV restricter internal to the cover, i.e., there is no PCV valve. That is the cover I used on my swap. If you have an 04, you don't need an LS6 valley cover.

Thanks for the verification. I did a search and one of your posts in a thread almost had me convinced, but...
Can't remember who made it, it was some time back when I bought it. I do remember I had to wait and it wasn't cheap either. Very nice quality unit though.
If the valley cover were off your car, you can verify the part number but unfortunately it is on the underside.
