Default BBK Shorty Headers Finally Installed

Hey now, It took my friend and I about five hours to get the install done on Saturday morning. It wasn't too hard except for the headerbolts closest to the firewall and dropping the drivers side header in. They bolted right up to the collectors perfect without rubbing or hitting anything. It actually was a true bolt on.
Took the car (01 auto C5) out for a couple rides and despite what anti-shorty vette owners say, their is a difference you can feel, trust me I have em'. The car noticably pulls harder on the highway and above 35+. They also smoothed the exhaust note out as well, it is deeper and less high pitched. I have the BBK CAI, Magna flow x-pipe % dual exhuast as mods. I would like to get a tune in the future. Sure, they are not long tubes or offer as much HP or torque. I dont have that kind of coin laying around for those, but for those who can do it yourself and low on cash; shorties are not a bad deal.
I consider it $400 well spent. If other C5 owners can justify dropping hundreds if not thousands on cheap looking aftermarket exterior mods like hoods, ground effects, spoilers, graffics, stick on vents, interiors etc; that do nothing but make it closer to the C4, I think I can justify other C5 guys and myself dropping $400 on some extra horses and torque you can feel.
I'll post pics soon. They look too.

I've got B&B shorties and B&B catback and had 334 RWHP after my Lingenfelger tune. After the install but before the tune my air/fuel ratio was way lean at 14:1. Now I'm back to around 12.5/1. Not sure if that was due to the shorties and my CAI but you might want to check to make sure you ok in that dept.

I saw a set of LG longtubes in the F/S section for $400. I bought my TPIS headers, with near brand new Random Tech hi flow cats and X pipe on the forum from a member for $700. Just sayin' it doesnt take thousands of dollars if youre thrifty.

Great to hear! My B&B shortys will be back from being ceramic coated this week. Since I like in the DPRK and have to deal with the smog ****'s the shortys are the only way to go.

Pictures? Where did you buy the parts?

I read these shorties actually reduce your weight a bit also. Did you notice that in the handling of the new/old parts?

Thanks

I put a set on my 03 z06 and was satisfied with the results. looks beter, sounds beter, and felt beter. I still cant figure out why gm would put cast iron shortys on the z06.

btw, my BBK shortys were already ceramic coated when bought from jeggs. i belive the total cost for headers and new bbk gaasket was around 430.

took that opertunity to replace plugs and wires too.

Thanks for the buying info. I was just on some site "CorvetteGuys" and the item for BBK Ceramic Shorty 01-04, read "does not fit on C5 Z06". I am a bit confused by that. Or maybe they are.

I'll take some today, and yes they are about half the weight of the original exhaust manifolds.

O yea, I forgot, Mine came with gaskets too, and I used the ones it came with. I still have the other set in the package. going to give those to my step dad with the oridunal headers to go on his project jeep.

on a side not, for those who havnt installed theese yet. make sure the threads are clear BEFORE you install. I had to run a tap thru a cuple of the bolt holes because they had weld leftovers in them.

Way back when in 99,, when those shorty headers first came out,, they were $1200. (NO BS!!!!) and the actual advertisement stated 10-12 RWHP Increase!

Now that there SIGNIFICANTLY less, its a great deal for the people who CAN NOT or dont want to run long tubes.

Less weight, they look really nice and they DO, give a boost in power.

Recommend installing a VARARAM, doing a ported LS1/6 TB and having your intake manifold ported. Then get a tune. You will be really impressed!!
