Ok i have a 2001 c5 with 80,000 miles and am looking to make the exhaust sound better its just stock but i am on a budget so i guess looking for a cat back system but there are so many,so im asking what you guys recomend?also when they say cat back does that mean i get new cats with that too ?i am probably in the 6 to 700 range.
I dont know if you can get a cat back for that price, but you should be able to get an axle back. Ive got B&B bullets on my stock 01 C5 and love them. Nice deep throwty sound, not too loud. I paid a little more than your budget, but I am in Canada.

The OEM Titanium cat back mufflers for the Z06 are probably the best value cat back system on the market for the C-5 corvette. They are very light, sound excellent and do not have sound resonance problems like many of the poorly designed aftermaket systems.
You can periodically find the Z06 cat back systems in the parts-for-sale section for less than the amount you have budgeted. Removal of the the cats is not required since the converters are located in the mid-pipe section of the exhaust system and the cat back back system will bolt directly onto your mid-pipe.
For increased performance, consider replacing your 01 mid pipe with a 02-04 mid pipe. The later model mid pipe did not have the pre-cats resulting in an exhaust system with lower overall back pressure. The 02-04 mid pipes can also be periodically found in the parts-for-sale section.
Cant beat the TI system. It weighs 24 pounds less than LS1 OEM, its TI and wont rust or corrode and looks 100% cool! It flows extremely well for a stock system for less than an arm and a leg!
If you dont like it or decide on another system, you will aleays be able to get $400 or what you paid for it back!

I went from stock to Corsa extremes and love them.
They are slightly rumbly at idle and scream when at WOT. At cruise they are great not noticeably louder than stock and you can talk and listen to the radio at nominal volume.
They were used slightly and were just a bit difficult to install as they had been modified. Once we got it figured out though it went easy.
Wait and patiently browse the parts section and you'll find what you want. Once you figure out what you want don't settle for less as you wont be happy with it.
ok will do just looking to get somthing new for a little money!maybe ill just buy that diablo tuner, people are saying it makes a noticable difference!just dont want to do any harm to the tranny or motor

Unless you have an auto tranny,,, it wont make that much of a change.
The Z06 Ti mufflers do not sound like the base exhaust system, that is an absurd comparison.
After many side by side comparos with club members,no one could hear one bit of difference between base and Ti's.A few "thought maybe" they could hear a bit of difference at high rpms.

If they couldn't hear the Ti's come alive at WOT, I think some of your club members might need to make a hearing test appointment.

Try the magnaflow dual exhaust set-up. I have that one, back in the day it used to be around $500 and that was with the x-pipe. It is a night and day difference in sound too.
I suggest going to a vette show/get-together and listen to several different ones because it really is a matter of personal preference. If you can, listen from the inside of the car w/ the doors closed as well as from the outside to figure out how much drone you'll get - almost all aftermarket exhausts have it, some are a LOT better than others.
I'm a big fan of the Magnaflow sound. I've had them on two V8 mustangs and now on my C5 and I keep going back to them. I like the look and sound of the Corsa's as well.
If I was looking for a system for a track car and cared about the weight savings over the sound, the TI would be for me - of course, if that's what I wanted I would have just bought a Z06...but their sound isn't that great IMO
As for price, I suggest lurking around on the F/S section, ebay, and/or craigslist and find something used but not beat up. That's a great way to get a $1,200 system for the $600-$700 you have in your budget. Exhaust systems are very durable and, unless a total bonehead installed/uninstalled them, they don't get messed up when transferring cars.
