Differential question
Will a differential from a 2001-2004 fit into a 1997 coupe?
The carrier I am looking at is a 3-rib unit out of a Z06.
Also my car is an automatic. Does this make a difference? (no pun intended)

Yes it will bolt right up w/no problem.
You will have a seal plate between the trany/diff.

Excellent!
I started getting really nervous when the first shop I called told me they would have to remove the engine to do it.
Started second-guessing myself.

I just called the local dealer and got a quote of $1040 plus fluids for the swap.
That seems a little high to me. He did say that that was the shop labor time and if it went faster it would be cheaper.
I was thinking 600 would be closer to a fair price...

Check around for a shop that specializes in C/5 , C/6 Corvettes in your area.
I'd stay away from dealer shops.

Thats way too muh and NO you do NOT need to pull the engine. Someone from down there will chime in and recommend a local shop.
If you want to bullet proof your new unit for a few bucks, heres an interesting and helpful post!

Way to step up, corvettebob1.
I'm a true believer in finding places to do bussiness with by past expereiences & of word of mouth from others.

Awesome recommendation corvettebob1!
Called him and he quoted me a much more reasonable figure.
Looks like I've still got some some spending money left.

Hopefully he saved you so much money that you can now add a mild stall converter.

Indeed, that is what I was thinking. It would be a shame to do all that work and want to add a stall later...
What would be a good "mild" stall? Keep in mind I only drive my Vette on the street. I may run it down the track at some point but my baby is mostly for driving casually... (my definition of casual may be different than most soccer moms)
