Default Overheating??!

I just recently replaced my thermostat in my 02. Did everything that the instructions said to do. Burped the system MULTIPLE times , but it still overheates. It didnt ever overheat before i tryed replacing my thermostat so obviously im not doing something right. Did i tighten the bolts on the housing too tight? . Is there Still air in the system?? i dont know whats up with it. Help

Alright , now when i got to tighten the bolts back up on the plate, is there a specific torque that is needed? And also , that 3/8" metal tube is the one bridging over the intake manifold correct?

Well I untightended the bolt on the left head and nothing happened , so i went and did the same to the right head, and nothing happened. I sat there for a couple minutes , no coolant came out at all. I had the pressure cap removed on the resevior and everything. Any ideas??

I didnt test the stat before i installed it. A few weeks ago it was running hot so i checked the coolant level. It was low so i filled it back up and ordered a new thermostat. It took a day or two to return to normal but the coolant add looked like it had pretty much done the job , but by that time i had already recieved the tstat so i just decided not to waste money and put it on anyway. There was a little bit of pine straw up in top corners when i looked but nothing real crazy, no bags, and there wasnt too much there, ive removed most of it. Both fans turn on at the proper temps so im pretty sure my fans are workin correctly. the tstat is a 160 deg.

Its a 2002 with 122K miles. When i changed it, the coolant color was the normal reddish, no discoloration or muddy brown-ness at all

Hey 8VETTE7 thanks man. I did what you said again this morning with the plates. I did both sides this time and the right one definitely had some air in it. I drove it to work this morning and it was fine. Never got above 207 even sitting at a very long light. Im still gonna keep an eye on it for the next couples days to be completely sure but i really appreciate the help. Thanks again.

Default 8VETTE7 you are the man

Bleeding the front of the heads was the cure. I had to add almost a half gal to the res as the air was coming out. It took almost 2 minutes before fluid came out. Thanks

Can you tell me what you did with the "plates" I'm having the same issue and I think I still have air in the system. One post said you took them off and nothing came out then after a pm was sent things worked out so I wanted to know what was the cure for this so I can give it a shot. My fans work, have a new thermo, tune so fans come on early. No crazy debris. SO I assume it's air in teh system thanks

My temps came down alot!!!! I didn't get any coolant from the pasenger side I will try the driver side. DO you do it with the car running or off? I did it with the car running but all I got was some nice hot hissing but coolant is much better. I couldn't get her back to normal after the radiatior swap.

Ok thanks I think this should be a sticky since the procedure to get the air out sucks. This worked very very well!!!

From the other items in the picture I'm thinking this is a picture of the back or the block???

The plates that I use to bleed the air are on the front of the block. Since my car has a Magna Charger installed I can't see anything on the back of the block.

If you go to post 12 in this thread there is a picture from the shop manul fro my 04 that shows the plates and tubes in the discussion.
i dont know wich is now front for you hehe
how ever.. this is in front of the car.. under the intake.. a bit lower is waterpump.. this small metal tube is connected to the other side, in the middle of this tube is a rubber hose connecting with it? is this it?

from looking your picture it looks pretty mutch the same ill go check, and i will try it out.
