my diff in my 99 frc with 131k has developed a whine.
im looking to get it rebuilt by a quality shop with the same 3.42 ratio. a local one would be preferable. I want to make sure the shop is top notch. Pressing in the bearings is quite an art from what I hear, and I want someone to do it that has experience with these diffs. I am in the Detroit area.
I thought about getting a quaife, but i cant justify this considering I am not making that much power.
how much should I expect to pay? i will be removing it myself.

Slap a set of 4.10s in that baby and the difference will wow you. You might lose about 3mpg on the highway, less in town. Since you need to rebuild why not since you have to spend the money anyway? I got mine from DTE in Ft Wayne, IN. West Coast Corvette sells them but I don't know who builds them for them.
ive been planning on going to indianapolis soon. perhaps i can drop it off while im down there. i guess I'll have to give RPM a call and see what they charge to rebuild the diff since it isnt listed on their website. not really looking to upgrade anything, just a rebuild.
Price for a rebuild would probably be the same, maybe a little less if they are able to re-use your original gears. I doubt they would re-use your stock gears though. If you are going in there, do it all at once. Imagine having a diff rebuilt and leaving in your stock gears, get the car running, break something, and have to pull it a month later because you kept the stock gears in there?
