Carlos you beat me to it All summed up the LS6 would be a perfect build for this car. That lq4 boondoggle will be just that. An LS6 crate with the proper boltons makes good longterm power and reliability. If your trying to build a vette with a budget and want some real WOW factor thats impossible. It takes tons of money to get out ahead and then to find out your really behind. For what its worth, try to sell that LQ4, buy a nice NOS wet kit and spray the LS1 til failure, then Crate the LS6 and set up with NOS. I have a brand new LS6 405 HP in the crate for 3500.00 ready to ship if your interested
coming to victoria on thursday and would like to look at engine and discuss. call me 210-884-5820
Sorry, Ill be in Beeville at The Texas Mile supporting our cars til Sunday evening.
Very cool and good luck! I saw one or two in car clips last year of a C5 Z06 I believe at the Maxton mile!
I would love to see that and do it but living in WNY the closest place would be Charlotte....one of these years!
got the flow results from kotzur today...wanted to share with you guys and thank you for your help and input. to answer the above questions the car is getting a new drivetrain (trans and differ) along with all new bushings, mounts, axles, rotors etc throughout while we have it all apart.
6.0 block (iron)(new)
4.0 bore
3.622 stroke
-8cc dished hypertuectic pistons (new)
ls1 heads above
gm hot cam
ls6 intake
long tube/ full exhaust
varaam
throttle body
9.33 compression ratio
this car is planned on being a daily driver, just wanting to make the right moves with the parts i have but im not thinking that will work with this motor as i will not be boosting in any way
up for sale???????
ls1 motor - high mileage but excellent cond. still in car can hear run
6.0 motor as stated above
3.15 getrag differential

So now you know what you have, decide what you want to run based on a reasonable budget and your best method of getting there.
Its not my money but from your choices so far I would give strongest consideration to the LS6 crate with fresh rear (replacing rear shoot for 3.42s, 3.73 if you can get them reasonable), trans, keep the Vararam, LS6 intake and long tubes and sell the rest. If it stretches your budget too much now, consider selling what you wont be using, use what you have now and baby the high mileage motor until you have enough to get what you want. An alternative if you check the engine in the car now with a compression test and leak down you can find out its health. If your not going to get much for the heads but the rings in your in car LS1 are not too bad realize you do have a fresh valve job already done and a hot cam in stock(a .525 hot cam is a little milder then the 02 LS6 cam). If an engine was maintained, has good oil pressure it is amazing how long they can last.
Check the C5 section of how many miles some folks have driven their cars! One girl in Florida I think was racing her C5 to around the 2 century mark and bracket racing it all the time before the engine let go! I believe she replaced it with an iron truck motor.
Keep in mind that the it's not just the cost of parts but the cost of labor too so a crate that is done can be cheaper in the long run.
No matter what you decide have fun and enjoy your Vette!
Carlos
