Default Tranny ?

I just had an LS7 clutch installed in my 01 coupe, and today was first day that I got a chance to really drive it,the problem is when I down shift from 3 to 2 it grids and the pops out of gear unless I am very deliberate and hold it there,it is fine on the upshift, the shop that did the work closed til Monday Not real familiar with all that goes into the install,is there some sort of adjustment that I can make myself,or do I have a bigger issue on my hand. Any info from the guys that know would be much appreciated. Thanks

I would first try to adjust the shifter and see if it helps. Usually, misadjusted shifter have issues on more than 1 gear but it couldn't hurt. If that doesn't help and it's most likely internal issue. If I had to guess, it would be the plastic fork pads worn/broken.

Yes. Theres a shifter alignment that you can do. Thats about it. If its grinding,, I wouldn't drive it much till its fixed or skip the gears that grind.

Make sure that the shifter box bolts and bushings are not loose or damaged.

Pull the boot off and remove the console:

With the trans in neutral, you should be able to install the alignment pin in the shifter snout:

If you have to move the stick to get it to align, you will need to adjust the shifter box bolts and clamp to move the box to the correct zero alignment..

Make sure that the box to shift rod bolt is tight.

Heres the procedure out of the book:

Shift Linkage Adjustment

Apply the parking brake.
Remove the shift control closeout boot. Refer to Shift Control Shift Closeout Boot Replacement .
Place the shifter into NEUTRAL.
Press down to engage the shift control neutral lock pin.

Loosen the transmission shift rod clamp bolt.
Loosen the shift control mounting bolts.
Check that the shift control locator (on the underside of the shift control) is installed into the shifter bracket on the side of the driveline support assembly.

Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Tighten the shift control mounting bolts. Tighten
Tighten the shift control mounting bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

Tighten the transmission shift rod clamp bolt. Tighten
Tighten the transmission shift rod clamp bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

Lift to release the shift control neutral lock pin.
Install the shift control closeout boot. Refer to Shift Control Shift Closeout Boot Replacement .
Release the parking brake.

It's really easy to do. You can easily do it yourself in 10 minutes. The same thing happened to me after I installed an LS7 clutch and an RPM IV trans.

Try it yourself first, it's level 0 difficulty work.

Decided to try it myself you where right I was super easy, adjustment was off a little, but I think it is more important that the BOLTS THAT HOLD THE SHIFTER DOWN ARE TIGHT! They were all loose, and back right was half way out.thanks to all the guys that offered there wisdom.
