Default Key problem --- any ideas?

:confus ed2:My 2001 wouldn't start this week untill my wife brought the second set of keys over to me. After getting home I tried the key that didn't work earlier that day and it started two times then wouldn't work again. I took key in to have it checked and the chip showed ok on the key machine compared to the one that works. I measured the thickness of the chip on both keys and the thickness on the one that doesn't work is .008" (eight thousands) thinner than the key that works. Could that be what is causing it not to work? Any ideas if that is the problem?

GOOD INFO!! If you pull the DTCs when the issue happens, it will let you pin point the cause of the issue.

Yes, GTEAT information. I will try that and see what happens. Thanks for reply.

Had the same problem once on my 1986. Got a new key cut and the problem hasn't returned.
