I had a oil leak around the oil pan, took it to my shop and had them replace the gasket (800.00). They suggested that I replace the rings due to the high mileage (175000). Reason they said I might be building up back pressure causing the oil pan gasket to leak. Now less then a month later I checked and noticed the oil pan leaking again. Do I need to rebuild the engine or what??? Thank you for any helpful replies.
If you ever saw how the OIL PAN gaskets are constructed, you would have to rule out an OIL PAN LEAK! If there installed properly, its very unlikely that theres a leak there.
That being said,, its very likely that you have a FRONT DAMPER SEAL LEAK!!!
I just replied to another member about the same issue. Clean ALL the oil off and take the car for a short drive and see where the leak starts from:
If you think you have or suspect that you have a BLOW BY issue, have the cylinder compression tested and also do a cylinder leak down test.
If your PCV system is working correctly, its difficult to over pressurize the crank case unless the rings are completly shot! I highly doubt that they are!!
I suspect that your being ROBBED by another MONEY HUNGRY DEALER!
Thank you for the information, I have seen the oil pan gaskets. At 170K miles (mostly highway) after the shop replaced the gasket all was fine for about 4-5 weeks 1000 + miles. They said that the LS1 after about 150K miles seem to do this, the internal pressure will fine a gasket or seal to leak from?? So if it seems that if the information is incorrect do you recommend a place in southern California that can test to see why it is leaking. Thank you for any information.
