Oh, that's a fun job. Might as well put a cam in if your going to remove the balancer.

If in fact,, the Power Steering Pulley did slide on the pump shaft,,, its shot and needs to be replaced!! That sucker is a VERY TIGHT press fit. If it is indeed loose, it is most likely cracked or if your not the origional owner, it was removed and reinstalled imperoperly.

Take a couple pictures and show us what it looks like.

No. There is no way anybody can tell if you need a balancer without looking at the car. From your description it sounds like you just have power steering pump or pulley problem.

My sons 99 frc had the pwr steering pulley move forward and spit the belt. The damn thing is plastic and adhered to a sleeve which fits over the pump shaft. You have a choice in OEM, plastic or steel and you probably know by now that the replacement job is involved

Yup. looks like the pulley has fallen off the shaft of the pump. It's a pressed fit. You should be able to just replace the pulley.

Based on the shine coming off that pulley in the picture(and all the other polished parts)...it looks like an aftermarket pulley.....which may account of the poor fit.

Time to replace the crank pulley. It has either separated or the bolt has come loose and the pulley walked off the shaft. Is there any oil under the car? If not, the pulley has probably just separated.

You can use the LS3 power steering pulley, it's metal and a wagon wheel design vs. the plastic LS1/LS6.
