Default Program/ tuner question.

Just wanted to get some feedback from guys that have installed a tune or purchased a programmer for their C5. What do you guys prefer? I own a Challenger and the Mopar guys prefer the predator tuner from Diablosport. I am looking to purchase one for my father's C5 and wanted to hear from corvette owners what "is best". A little background info, my father has a 2003 C5 LS1 convertable with a Mid-America motorworks cat-back and CAI. Looking for a tuner to maximize the changes. Thanks in advance for any advise!

Bob

If it is an auto, you can feel some improvement. You can really only change shift timing. No real gains on HP with them or the mods listed.

Not very usefull in the long run.

Most of the hand held TUNING DEVICES install one or a number of “CANNED TUNES”.

Someone sat down and figured out what changes that LSX engines respond to and incorporated them into a Hand held device TUNE.
Is that persons idea of generic tune for your LS engine going to be good for your engine and the MODs that you have installed?????????

When you add modifications to any fuel injected engine, you change the way that the engine breaths. One of the PCM tables that models the way that the engine breaths is the VLOUMETRIC EFFICIENCY (VE) Table. There’s NO WAY that a canned tune can accurately change that table if it needs adjusting. Another value that it can NOT accurately adjust is the Power Enrichment (PE) table that controls your WOT Air Fuel Ratio (AFR).

Tuning Software like EFI Live or HP Tuners allows you to data log and customize just about every table or tuning value that GM used to program the PCM. The drawback is,, the learning curve to be able to correctly change all those parameters CORRECTLY is pretty much VERTICAL !(for me anyway! ) That software is also a little pricey.

I have EFI Live V2 and I also have good friends that are GODS with tuning!

I’m on call 24/7 for their C5/C6 electrical issues and there on call for MY TUNING needs! Can’t get much better than that!

I agree with Bill, but I do have a Pred and It does what I want it to do on my 02Z...which only mod is VR+PD.I'm not out to extract every hp,so the generic tune was ok for me.

I was able to tune out CAGS,adjust my fans and get my LTFT's in line.If I added any bolt ons,I would certainly get a custom tune.

Knowing your expectations will guide you to the right tuning route for your car & mods.

IMO.......

YEah, but with the predator, you can have a place dyno tune it and load it in to your hand held to maximize the upgrades. I am a auto technician so I know a canned tuned tuner won't maximize anything. Just want to find out what the corvette guys are doing so I don't limit anything.

From what Ive heard the predator is one of the more popular handheld tuners but I decided that wasnt enough for me so I ended up getting HP tuners instead because I felt that was too limiting for me.

I hope I'm not doing some thing wrong linking to this post. I've sent messages back and forth with Doug about my bolt-ons and he has been more than willing to help. I'm sending my "brains" to him for a tune.
