Default ls1howto's

Hello there!

few days back i found this on google.

i was searching for a heads replacement, im just preparing if i have a headsgasket failure, so i learn all the basic and further on what i need to know. And yes - i ordered a pressure testing kit so ill do that before anything else.

my question is, any1 else followed this guide for heads and how it came out? is it any good? i readed from start to end and i think its pretty good, what do you think?

While that site provides a good guide and photos, there are issues with many of the procedures used (short cuts) and some can lead to problems. Best is to get the service manual. If you search on this site, someone had a downloadable version of the service manual. For replacement of heads, you don't need to remove the front harmonic damper and that is probably the worst procedure on the ls1howto web site.

Thats the one I used for my head and cam swap, great info and it certainly made the job easier for me since it was my first time to tear into a LS1.

I don't mean to diminish that web site as there is obviously a lot of work that went into putting it together, however for the uninitiated there can be problems that arise from its use where deviations are made from GM procedures. Best to have the service manual and know the GM procedures beforehand.

No problems encountered at all, have put about 7000-8000 miles on it since. It's very informative and with just a basic skill set of taking things apart and putting them back together you should have no problems. Maybe the steering rack will cause you to cuss everyone on earth, but it is doable and patience will get you through. The Steering rack is kinda like that lab experiment where they put the apple thats the almost the same size as the opening of the jar it's in. Then watch the Monkey try and grab the apple and pull it out with the one hand around the apple, it ain't gonna happen and the Monkey screams to high heaven and pitches a fit! UNTIL he figures out to turn the jar upside down and the apple FALLS out.

You are gonna feel like a Monkey until.......

just so you know. I personally did not find the rack difficult at all to get out.... unbolt all hydrolic lines that bolt rack to the car, unbolt rack, slide it to the driverside wheel well, rotate the rack clockwise maybe 100* or so, slide it the passanger wheel well, lift the rack up and pull it out of the car (driverside up and out first).... helps if you remove the radiator..... easy peasy
no reason to pull the rack to pulll the heads though

It was very helpful, but I did follow the service manual on the rocker install and torque. With LS1Howto, Corvette Forum and LS1Tech.com you will be in good shape.
