I couldn't find an answer to this from a several searches so I will post my question.
I have one apparently dead sensor, getting the XXXX reading & tire pressure system warning message.
I reset all sensors, in hopes that the problem sensor lost its signal somehow. It relearned but still reads XXXX.
I have a spare sensor of unknown age. I reprogrammed it in atmosperic conditions in place of the dead one. I immediatley received a flat tire warning & the DIC read 0 psi, in lieu of XXXX. Presumably this means the spare sensor will read pressure & it should be good to use as a replacement.
Can anyone verify my thinking before I go to the trouble & cost of removing & remounting the tire with the new sensor?
Also, during my searches I came across a number of threads dealing with relearning the TPS. A large magnet is not needed- the key is to hold the magnet in place for about 5 seconds! I couldn't get them to relearn for the life of me until I did this.
If it programs and sends an XXXX pressure,, you should be fine. Yes you have to leave the magnet on the sensor until it transmits and the BCM beeps the horn.
