Do a search here and you'll find it....

An '05 is NOT a C5, which may, or may not, be different. Immaterial, as you responded to a 10 year old post.
Why is everyone hung up on how old a post is. If you answer one with information people can use , thats the whole idea of this forum. Get a life.
You are correct that old posts can and do remain a great resource to the Forum - as long as they contain accurate information. In this case one poster (from the original post) had added inaccurate information and you posted to correct it. That is a good reason to add to an old post such as this one, to correct inaccurate information. Thank you for doing that.
One other point that is worth making, is that recently software has become available that does allow the updating of an old cluster with new or more accurate information without removing the cluster. You just need to find someone that has the software. Be prepared to provide complete and accurate documentation of the change and reason for it, as most technicians that have it will insist on seeing this before making changes to an odometer reading - with good reason.
As for those that may wish to use this software for nefarious purposes, they need to realize that CARFAX will immediately flag it on their report that the mileage appears altered if the mileage in a subsequent year is lower than previously reported. Many states are providing to CARFAX and others I presume that seek this information, the mileage reported during each annual inspection. Some maintenance facilities also provide this information to CARFAX, such as insurance companies. Someone is going to have a lot to explain if this is the case and some dealers will refuse to take the vehicle as a trade in.
Good luck... GUSTO
I'm well aware of the purpose of the forum. I joined in 2003. I also have a life, one I enjoy very much, thank you. One reason, and the only reason, that I have a problem with older posts, is they sometimes contain info that has been proven to be inferior to more current posts. I do agree that if the the post contains useful info, that's cool.. but if your info comes from an older post, it may be useful, but useful and current are two different things. A Ford Model T is useful for transportation, but most of us have moved forward with MORE useful transportation, or there would be no Corvette forum! It is ALWAYS better to start a new thread. I can't speak for you, or for anyone else's reasons to respond to older posts. Some info is still applicable. However, some is outdated. People find better ways to accomplish the same tasks as time goes on. Better shortcuts, etc. Progress waits for no one....
