I have a 99 with the V code ABS traction control. Mine is functioning fine right now, but I have a chance to buy a spare. The problem is the person who has it is not a car guy, which makes me leery. He claims it came off his wrecked Vette from a few years ago. I can get it for a decent price, but it would be nice to make sure it's not one that's already messed up. So I was wondering is there a way to bench test it? Or is it just buy it and hope it works if I need it some day? Or forget it and hope I don't have any problems?

The only part that really screws up is the electronics side. Just seperate yours and swap his in and see if it functions properly. If it does, leave it in place and save your known good one as a spare. Thats as close as a bench test as your going to get!

Thanks Bill! That's what I figured. I'll do a couple of searches and see what is involved with pulling it apart.
OK, I searched and googled, can't find it. Anybody got a link on how to pull just the electronics side off?
FWIW, during my searches I found some threads about "exercising" your abs motor. Since a light rain is falling, thought I'd give it a try. Doing some hard braking and hard cornering on some wet back road lit up the active handling and abs light several times. What a great way to spend 20 minutes. Gotta wash the car now though.
If your EBCM fails and your spare is no good, send your original to ABSFIXER. http://www.absfixer.com/ Brandon will fix it for $150.00 with a quick turnaround of about a day.

I have a 99, unfortunately they don't repair the early ones. As far as I know there is only a place called Dino's that fixes them and it costs $800. That's way I bought the spare.
I hope you will not need to find out if your spare is good? I am afraid the instructions in the link I provided you are not good for your 99.
Bob
Yeah, I'm hoping the spare is good too! I got it for a good price and it looks new. Was supposedly taken off a low mileage car that was wrecked and turned into a track day car. That's okay on the link, I found another that was for my type of ECBM. Google works better than the search on the forum.
