I got the car back, after repair, and I had to resynchronize the key fob. After awhile the car horn honks and the doors unlock. Sometimes multiple times on its own. I replaced the batteries and resynchronized again. I even tried to rematch the transmitters. I followed the instructions per owners manual. I also have the switch on the key fob switched to off so it wont unlock automatically if I am too close to the vehicle The problem reoccurs. Any suggestions as to what to do? I'm baffled, it seems that it is so obvious I cant see it
Another guy had the same problem yesterday. He solved it by sliding the passive switch on the fob off/on several times rapidly. That cleans off dust/corrosion and keeps the passive feature from being on even though it's in the off position. If it only fixes it temporarily, you can always buy a 2000 fob that doesn't have the passive feature and it will program to your car.
Using one now. My passive FOB did just like you mentioned, PITA locking and unlocking when I got near the car. Any FOB with FCCID ABO0216T will work on any 97-00 C5.
