What is the purpose of the EVAP purge tube/canister...
...on the driver side valve cover?? Im cleaning up the engine bay by removing the AIR system, relocating the coils, adding aftermarket valve covers, and aftermarket fuel rails. Would like to get rid of the EVAP tube and cannister if its not going to adversely effect anything.
Thanks for the help

WELL,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Its an EMISSIONS have to have system. The canister collects evaporative emissions from the fuel tank in a charcoal bed inside the canister. When the PCM determines that the engine can safely PURGE those gasses out of the canister, it open the solenoid and allows vacuum to pull the fumes out of the canister into the intake and comsumed by the engine.
IF,,,,,,you just disconnect it, it will trip one or more of the following DTCs:
EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM
P0440, 0442, 0443, 0446, 0449
Im pretty sure that you can tune all those out of the PCm so that they NO longer report and allow the tank to vent to the atmosphere.
Im pretty sure that you can relocate that solenoid to a remote location out of sight and neatly run some nylon vacuum line to that vacuum port location and retain the function.
Give me your thoughts

Bill, thanks for the info! I figured it was some sort of fuel system vent, but wasnt sure. Looking at it again, Im sure I could run something cleaner and more out of the way than the factory set up, but since Ive already removed the AIR system, and have to have those codes set to NO REPORT, I figure I might as well pull this system, have them set those codes to NO REPORT, and then just vent the tank to the atmosphere.
My only concern is that Ill get fumes inside the car...any thoughts? Maybe it would be better to just remotely mount the canister and run some black vacuum line like you stated.

You could very well smell fuel at times if it isnt contained in the can and burnt thru the engine.

I can't find mine...I think it may have fallen off or been stolen..
The codes can be tuned out along with the pump codes if that falls off or gets stolen at the same time.
No gas smell.
Now that I think about it...the air tubes off the headers are also missing.
