What's wrong with the pics? I'm not the first to have the cam bolts loosen and the cam walk back on them.

What I'm talking about is where the lifter is riding on the cam.
Looks like the block got windowed by something. The cracks and raged edges looks bad. Where are the missing pieces of aluminum?

Missing pieces of aluminum? the window is supposed to be there, it's under the valley cover. If chunks of aluminum were missing my motor would not be running.

I think what they are reffering to is what looks to be a crack on the right side and the small chip/chunk at the bottom. Circled in red....

I blew the pic up and see cracks on both sides. Not good. Looks like the lifter got jammed sideways and split the block.

This looks like BIG trouble. I think the block is toast now.

Not using lock-tite on the cam retainer bolts. But it shouldn't have walked that fast if they were torqued properly.

I'll take the intake back off and look again. I only drove it about 100 miles and never got on it. I torqued the bolts to the proper specs 26 lb ft if I remember correctly. The car drives still and doesn't make any odd noises. I'll see what's going ona and try to get some better pics. I see what you're talking about in the pics though.

I don't see how one of the lifters can be riding on the lobe completely while the other is completely off the lobe. Unless the movement of the cam caused the block to crack and that caused the lifter to jam.

Looks like that is exactly what happened.

Great, of all the people who have had this problem with the cam walking back on them, I have yet to see anyone with this outcome. Guess I'm the lucky one.

Block is fine, I looked again and what you guys see in that picture is the jagged edge of the window it's not even a crack at all. The angle makes it look like it's on the lifter bore but it's not it's the edge of the window.

All is good.

Nope, just pulled the intake back off to look under the cover to make sure the block wasn't cracked. I plan on doing that this week, should all be done by the weekend.

I have a lot going on so time to work on the car isn't too common. I am just glad the block is fine, now I can sleep at night.

A little bit of dirt fell on the cam when I pulled the valley cover off, is this something I should worry about? I'm going to try to spray some compressed are into there to get it off but I don't know how well of a job that's going to do.

cam bolts and locking plate cam in yesterday, I have a new crank bolt and cam retainer plate. Anything else I should replace?

I think the retainer plate will be fine since the cam walked back and not forward.

That's one way to make sure whatever fell in......will be distributed evenly in the motor.....never used compressed air ....use a vacuum. You've already had the top end apart.....did you not clean everything up when it was apart?

I've only taken the intake off, the heads have been on the whole time. I just did a cam swap. I'll try to get a vacuum in there to take care of it, or I'll try to wipe it off with a rag. The intake is still off the car

Ok got it done and have been driving it for the last few days. Runs great and best of all no check engine light.

Sure doesn't sound like Corvette anymore, still need to get a final tune in it so I can see what kind of power she's got with this baby cam
