You might have another issue, but you could also bypass the radiator.
I did about 30mins of city/hwy driving after church, and with the temps at 99*, my trans got all the way up to 148*

I'm thinking either the cooler is too small. Or my stall isn't locking up. Idk. I'm getting bummed. It's always one thing or another.

Before spending any more money, I would make sure everything is operating correctly. JMO.

Wouldn't bypassing the radiator cause the trans to run hotter? I've sways heard that running them both is the best way to do it.

You have not provided any information. Is the trans properly serviced? Filter? Fluid age? Fluid level? If all that is good, you need to have it evaluated by a shop for a diagnosis.

Im running a smaller cooler than you and in a 106* heat my trans runs around 170ish driving around town but my fans are set up to come on sooner than stock.
If your stall is not locking it will definitely heat it up especially highway driving. What rpms are you turning at 70 and what gear? For instance I turn 2200rpms at 70 with 3.42's with converter locked. When my lockup went out a few months back it was turning 3000rpms at 70mph and the fluid was getting up to 230* in 75* air.

This might be your best bet.

I read A LOT of post on the subject, and both sides (bypass or not) claimed to be the best. One post quoted a source that stated that the fluid was run though the rad to HEAT it in the winter.
Deciding factor; RPM, who built my trans, said bypass, so bypass I did and I have only seen the trans fluid go over 150* once, since I installed the cooler

If you are overheating now with the addition of the cooler I suspect you may have cut too short an arc with the rubber line restricting flow. Using the same cooler, no by pass, and running a 3600 converter it was rare to see over 180.

I think I may have pinpointed my problem guys. I removed my air dam a few years ago since it was rubbing on everything. I'm guessing that since the air dam isn't there to direct air towards the cooler there isn't a sufficient amount of flow to help cool everything.

Does anyone think putting the air dam back on will solve my problem?

You still have not commented on the transmission. Have you verified it is at least serviced properly?

Has new fluid, and was working fine before I added the stall.

not sure if it will solve it but it will direct airflow towards the cooler and radiator. you can always buy a cooler with a fan

And that's the first time you have mentioned that.... You just identified the common denominator.

Yea, it was operating normal, and I'm almost positive it's locking up. It feels like it locks up around 45mph. How do I tell for sure? This is the first stall I've had.

I mentioned it in the post before your first one. Post #22.

Perhaps I'm blind..stupid...or a little of both. Nowhere in this thread, do I find any statement about you just changing the torque converter, and how your problems started after said change.

Good luck....I'm out.

"I'm thinking either the cooler is too small. Or my stall isn't locking up.
That's what was said in post #22. Either way, you haven't been helpful. This isn't the first thread of mine that you've been condescending on. I don't understand why you post if you don't have anything useful to add.
