This is really simple. If you plan of modding for more power; get the LS3. If you plan to leave it stock, get the LS6. The reasons behind both are pretty obvious, so I won't bother listing them.

The mods that I will start with is in the first post, I do not know the future but if any other mods I would do would be a SC. Now on the LS3 I will be doing a cam swap for sure.
I've got a bad *** LSX 434 24x reluctor engine sitting here for $13,750 I'd let go for 13,500 if your interested.. TFS 245 heads on top
Thanks thats a bit more than my setup will cost, not comparing apples to oranges your engine is bad *** to what I plan. The ls6 will be the lowest cost to do but I think I can do the LS3 500-1k more in cost.
A stock crate motor does not cost that much, however, if your going to mod the engine, then maybe buying a build package is the way to go.
$13.5 is a great price for built motor with a LSX block
True but the only mod on the LS3 would be the cam and I would sell the stock one to get some of it back. I don't have a total cost but this swap on the LS3 will be around 6k my labor.
If you plan running on road courses then go with the LS6 or the LS3 with dry sump. The wet sump LS3 has survivability issues on road courses. Note posts by wtknght1 and his experiences with the LS3.

Hell yah. This past weekend at VIR ( Virginia International Raceway i)n the NASA ST2 class ( stock LS6 engines about 370-380 RWHP the lap records fell again. LS3s or LS7s are not coming close to the times.
3.27 mile road course.
Hmm I am sure Eric could build a bullet proof road race LS2 block about 405 BHP
