Default Question about downshifting?

I jsut got off the phone with "thegame" he said he is having problems downshifting his car. He says when he puts it in 3rd at 70 it feels like it goes right through the gear. He wants to know if this is normal. I am going to drive it 15 mins and see if i can figure anything out but has anyone heard of this? It is a 99 hardtop M6. I know in my 86 when i had the 5 speed in it that 2nd gear was really slow. I will post more info later when I am done. Any help would be great. He has also had some weird things happen with his trans in the last couple of weeks. should he get it replaced under warranty? thanks

Damm............. yo spellin' need help too!

If you're talking about "normal" driving, then you should not be slipping the clutch into second gear!

There is something to be said for the "old" days! When I was in dirver-ed way back then, we learned on Pontiacs with "3 on the tree". It was much better learning by burning out those clutches, than the clutch on a M-6. When both my kids got their first cars which I kicked in some bucks for, I insisted on a manual. My daughters big complaint when she was away at college was "Whenever we go on a road trip, we can't take my car because I'm the only one that can drive it". What a shame! Ha! Ha!

Need to match the rev. w/ the speed. YES you need to give it gas when downshifting...That's the whole point. :D

Dude listen to me..YOu need to speed match the engine when downshifting.. Once I downshifted from 50mph to 2nd gear and was not paying attention. I locked the back wheels so hard T/C kicked in

Anyway...Try this...While the clutch is depressed and you have the transmission in the "downshifted gear" Blip the throttle right before letting off the clutch. Just a half second, halfway down "blip" The engine will rev up and when you let the clutch off it will smoothly grab . :smash:
